ADSC Board applauds the achievements of the Emirati athletes at Asian Games

The Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) discussed the budget to be allocated for each sport following the UAE’s most successful Asian Games campaign.

The board congratulated the athletes and their respective federations for the 14 medals they won in the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang from August 18 to September 2.

The medal haul of three golds, six silvers and five bronze surpassed their previous best 10 (3 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze) achieved in the Doha Games in 2006.

The members of the board thanked His Highness the UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, for their unstinted support for the development of sports that resulted in their success at the Asian Games.

His Excellency Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Vice President of ADSC, who headed the meeting, conveyed the greetings of HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of ADSC to the attendees.

“Our athletes have achieved good results, particularly in jiu-jitsu, accounting for nine of the 14 medals won,” said HE Al Rumaithi during the meeting at the ADSC auditorium at Zayed Sports City on Wednesday.

Several topics were discussed including the budget of the ADSC for 2019 and plans for hosting the world events in Abu Dhabi for the 2018-2019 season.

Some of the major international events to be held in the capital city are: the FINA World Swimming Championships and World Diving World Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Asian Cup UAE 2019, Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, Emirates Cycling Tour, Abu Dhabi International Triathlon Championships, Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.

Present at the meeting were HE’s Mohammad Ali Fadel Al Hamli, Ali Saleh bin Tamim, Dr Matar Rashid Al Darmaki, Abdullah Abdulraza Al Khouri, Hamad Ali Al Dhaheri, Faisal Abdullah Al Shaikh, Yousif Mohammed Al Khouri and Aref Hamad Al Awani, general secretary of ADSC.
