Quick Sand AA ridden by Sasha Risenhoover and trained by Jernesto Torrez emerged an impressive winner of the US$100,000 Grade 1 President of the UAE Cup for Purebred Arabians at the Churchill Downs on Saturday.
The victory in the eighth leg of the President’s Cup race series was the four-year-old grey filly’s fourth successive Grade 1 triumph for 2018.
Risenhoover held her in fourth spot on the near side rails before producing a challenge approaching the final bend and romp home unchallenged over the 1,600-metre trip.
The Fenneka Bentley-trained Madjikman under Shaun Bridgmohan was best of the chasing pack in second spot ahead of another Torrez entry Easter Man with Keiber Coa atop in the nine-runner field.
The silver jubilee year of the race series was held under patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and under the directives of HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs.
HE Majid Hassan Al Suwaidi, the UAE Consul General in New York, and Saeed Al Muhairi, Director of the Department of Technical Affairs of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, presented the awards to the winning connections.
“The UAE and the President of the UAE Cup in particular has played an important role to promote the Purebred Arabian racing around the world,” said HE Al Suwaidi.
